A set of four original Turku dining chairs, designed by Carina Karlsson for IKEA in 1991. A great example of early 1990s Scandinavian design, combining warm pine with a tubular chrome frame.

The softly curved wooden backrest gives the chairs a comfortable, sculptural quality, while the chrome structure adds a cool, modern contrast. The simple construction and mix of materials give them that unmistakable early-90s IKEA character, functional, well considered and still very easy to combine with both vintage and contemporary interiors.

The original lacquer had aged over time and was no longer in good condition, so I removed it from the wooden parts and refinished the chairs with oil. This brings out the natural character and warmth of the pine while giving the chairs a more contemporary feel.

The chairs are sold as a set of four and work beautifully around a round or rectangular dining table.
